Homeschool 2010-2011 ~5th grade~

First of all, I can NOT believe my baby is a fifth grader, gulp!

Noah and I have been working on his upcoming homeschool year. This summer we've continued homeschooling a bit more than usual, with studying the Ojibwe/French people called the Metis (may-tee) people of Northern Michigan and we've learned some Ojibwe and French language.
So with continuing our studies our vacation will be spent in the actual area of the Metis people. We'll be visiting forts, saw mills and beaches were the French and Ojibwe lived and worked.
We leave for vacation the day that the public school children start back to school. Yeah... I love homeschooling! We'll be having a Not-back-to-school park day with the homeschool group to start off the year- or is that... to not start off the year?

Our Tuesday co-op classes begin in October. Here's the classes that Noah will be taking:

The 1st and 3rd Tues:
Michigan's Native People (with mom as teacher)

Basic Fiber Art

Gym

Drama

The 2nd and 4th Tues:

Letterboxing (with mom as teacher)

Cells and Microbes

Drama

Chinese History (maybe)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He'll also have science labs and history classes at the museums, art classes, park days and field trips with friends.
Family field trips: 2010 Civil War Muster, Fort Michilimackinac, Mill Creek, Ojibwe Museum, Mackinaw Bridge, Castle Rock, Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.
Other subjects Noah would like to study and skills he'd like to learn are:
More Ojibwe and French language lessons-Cursive writing (I can't believe he asked for this!) Greek Mythology-Shakespeare-Astronomy-animal science-plants-rocks-life skills-anything and everything history-math-writing-punctuation-Medieval times-Romans and of course tons of reading (he's reading the Warriors series by Erin Hunter at the moment.)
oh let's not forget our walks in the woods, watching documentaries, playing games and catching a rainy day movie here and there.
Those are some awesome plans you have... can't wait to read more about them as the year moves along. Happy homeschooling!
5th grade...kind of makes you wonder how time passes so quickly, doesn't it? I'm feeling a lot the same way with my baby being in 5th grade this year too.
