History and Art...

Michigan History unit.
Noah has been studying Michigan History. He's learned about how Michigan was once frozen in ice, it was winter all year long...brrr... Once the glaciers retreated Mastodons and other woolly animals roamed our yard:)
The first people were Noah's ancestors the Chippewa (Ojibiwa) and two other tribes. The trio was called the Three Fires. The French were the first Europeans to reach Michigan. Trapping furs and trading with the Indians.
The English decided they liked to own Michigan so they fought the French and took over the state. Then years later the whole America declaring their Independence from England thing happened. JOY! Michigan joined the United States in 1837.
Michigan was known for copper mining, lumbering, and then during the industrial age, good old Henry Ford gave us the automobile. In 1957 the Mackinaw Bridge was completed linking the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. Michigan may be in a slump right now, but it's a pretty great place to live;) You should come visit us!

Noah made a map of Michigan with air dry clay. He painted copper for the copper mines.

Love the surrealism study! :-)
Michigan, especially the UP, is one of our favorite places. The hub and I stayed at a great B&B on Lake Manistique. We keep talking about getting a cabin near there for the family... we need to quit talking and start doing!

How interesting. I didn't know anything about Michigan, especially that it was once covered in ice.

Thanks for your research, Noah! I have learned something new.
