Back to Business...

Back to business is just what we'll be doing next week. I return to work and we will start homeschool lessons again.
A while ago I wrote a post of Noah wanting to try Unschooling... well, his idea of unschooling consisted of only reading Harry Potter and playing video games. I really think we need to wait a year or so to give it another try when he's a little more mature.
So we'll be homeschooling the way we have in the past. Relaxed, Interest Led, Earth Learners:)

We've worked on a Noah's interest list. We sit down write out a list of things he's interested in or has been wondering about lately and then we plan our homeschool lessons:

Winter/Spring Homeschool

Still Reading Harry Potter Series; on number 5!

Mental Math and verbal quizzes, math games and puzzles.

Working on the computer: Resources; working on his blog, e-mails, internet scavenger hunts.

The Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, Resources; Internet, books, videos and an interview with Grandma. Writing projects.

World War II, Resources; same as above. Also tell Noah the story of when my dad had to jump out of his plane on D-day. Look through grandpa's photos and papers of when he was in the war. Art project; exploring World War II posters and art work.

Native American Ghost Dance and Wounded Knee, Resources; DVDs, Internet. Discussions.

James Audubon, Resources; Internet, library books, read the Audubon story book that I received for Christmas. Art projects.

The Environment/Nature, Resources; Internet, books, videos, science projects. Watching Wild China series.

Cooking, Resources; (umm... yeah not my favorite, but he wants to learn.) Food Network channel. Studying the science involved with cooking and hopefully making some delicious dishes.

Antiques, Resources; books, watching Pawn Stars and visiting Antique shops for a field trip.

Homeschool Classes with our homeschool group; Photography, Creative Challenges and Drama. May add Bird study (if I can talk him into it:)

Homeschool group activities; field trips, ice skating, sledding, winter woods hiking, swimming, science labs and history classes, Jumpin Jax, bowling.

Recording loads of programs from; The History Channel, Nat. Geo. Channel, Food Network Channel, The Discovery Channel and Science Channel. There's a new show about a Pawn Shop in Los Vegas called Pawn Stars, Noah loves that show! He likes all the antiques and junk.

Phys. Ed, Resources; on most days we will work-out with Wii Fit Plus. Neighborhood walks and hikes at the nature centers.

This looks like way too much fun to be considered "school!" Doncha just love homeschooling? And having the freedom to learn how you want in a fun way?

I like that Noah wants to learn to cook. You should make him a civil war apron. lol! :)

Oh my gosh Tammy, what a great idea!
I have a big piece of muslin around here somewhere.
He would love that!

I love that you were willing to let Noah give unschooling a try. I guess it's different with each kiddo. Until he's ready, these plans sound great. Do you ever watch America's Test Kitchen or read Cook's Illustrated magazine? They go into a lot of the science of cooking, explaining how they change ingredients and test recipes. It's pretty interesting.
Off topic: knit your mittens, Anet! Even if the first pair is a little off, you will learn enough to make it worth your while. :-)
