Monday's Word: Aestival


Aestival/ Of, relating to, or appearing in summer.
Maple samaras--a.k.a. helicopters, whirligigs, seeds
Aestival maple seeds.
Aestival seedling that were in the gutters.

As a child, I always did this.

Noah models "Maple seed nose."

Funny the things you remember from childhood.....those things that you were really mentally present for. Many of mine are playing with whirligigs and watching as they momentarily seemed to defy gravity and twirl. Thanks for that.

Hey Anet... Pretty soon you're going to see Noah whirling around the yard ... oh maybe he does that already!!!

In Halifax, Nova Scotia, they have a summer art/craft fair called "The Aestival Festival"... and I always wondered what it meant and with your nudging I looked it up and the whole thing made sense!!! thanks!!

Hey Sharon, I loved playing with maple seeds. I think you commented before I put up the pic. of Noah with one on his nose. Did you ever do that, peel them a bit and stick them to your nose? funny!

I remember peeling them but I don't think we ever stuck them anywhere! :) Great picture, thanks Noah!

We used to make dandelions stem curly-q's though.

I HEART the maple nose...too silly! We didn't have maple trees where I lived~~growing up in California and Washington...well for that matter there are no maple trees here in Alaska either...ha:)
